Police in Kabalagala are still hunting for suspects following the death of Moses Matovu, a musician with the Afrigo Band, who was allegedly attacked in Kampala today morning.
According to police, Matovu was attacked by unknown assailants at Kibuli Market Zone B in Makindye Division, Kampala District.
Police have confirmed that Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu was killed following a suspected physical altercation at Kibuli Depot in Makindye Division, Kampala, on Thursday morning.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. after Matovu reportedly visited his girlfriend’s residence. As the two were leaving, they were allegedly confronted by a man believed to have previously been in a relationship with the same woman, during the confrontation Matovu reportedly sustained serious injuries.
He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider but later succumbed to his injuries.
The woman who was with Matovu has been arrested and is assisting detectives with investigations.
Racheal Kawala, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says the male suspect has been identified but fled the scene and is being pursued.
She says investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the musician’s death and urged the public to remain calm.
Moses Matovu 77 years of age was born in 1949 and died on 24 September 2026. He has been both a singer and Ugandan saxophonist, best known as the co-founder and long-standing leader of Afrigo Band a local musical band that has entertained Ugandans since 1975.
