Journalists and supporters of election petitioners have been restricted from accessing the Luweero High Court premises as the hearing of election petitions arising from the 2026 General Elections commenced today.

According to guidelines issued by the Deputy Registrar of the High Court in Luweero, journalists from various media houses are required to report to the Public Relations Officer, Savannah, for accreditation before being allowed to cover the proceedings.

Journalists must also present proof that they have been assigned by their respective media organisations to cover the election petition hearings.

The guidelines further prohibit the taking of photographs during the hearings unless express authorisation has been granted by the judicial officer and security personnel.

As part of measures to regulate access to the court premises, each candidate will be allowed to be accompanied by a maximum of 15 supporters.

The Deputy Registrar said the guidelines are intended to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of the election petition proceedings.

Meanwhile, Radio Sapientia has learnt that the Judiciary has assigned two judges to the Luweero High Court to handle six election petitions arising from the 2026 General Elections.
