MTN Uganda has launched a new faith-based digital service dubbed “Faith Giving by MoMo”, aimed at simplifying the process of making religious contributions for Christians, Muslims and other worshippers.
The initiative is designed to facilitate digital giving, including offertory, tithes, Sadaqah, Zakat and other donations to faith-based institutions.
Speaking during the launch at the MTN Uganda headquarters along Jinja Road, MTN MoMo Managing Director Phrase Lubega said the new faith-based menu is intended to address challenges faced by worshippers who are unable to physically attend their places of worship.
Lubega said worshippers can now continue supporting their churches, mosques and other religious institutions even when they are away from their places of worship or outside the country, by making contributions digitally from wherever they are.
He explained that faith-based institutions will be required to register with MTN and receive a unique code, which their followers can use to make contributions through the service.
The initiative is expected to make religious giving more convenient, accessible and secure by leveraging digital financial services.
