Former Kole District Woman Member of Parliament Judith Alyek has lost the Okwerodot Sub-County Women Council chairperson election, narrowly defeated by independent candidate Betty Atim.

Atim secured 21 votes against Alyek’s 19 in an election held on Wednesday at the Okwerodot Sub-county headquarters.

Alyek, who previously chaired the Lango Parliamentary Group, contested the position on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, while Atim stood as an independent candidate.

The election was presided over by Paul Awany, the Okwerodot Sub-county returning officer.

However, Alyek rejected the results, alleging that some of her supporters were prevented from participating in the election.

She has since filed a formal complaint with the Electoral Commission, challenging the credibility of the exercise.

Alyek said she had raised concerns about the manner in which some voters were handled before polling and vowed to pursue the matter through the appropriate channels.

The election was conducted under heavy security following disagreements between supporters of the two candidates during the voting process.

The Electoral Commission is expected to review Alyek’s complaint and determine whether any irregularities occurred and, if so, whether they affected the outcome of the election.
