Police have linked the murder of Sports Club Villa Captain David Owor to a gang allegedly involved in a series of attacks on members of the public, with 17 suspects now in custody.

The suspects include five key suspects, three alleged stolen-phone promoters and nine associates of the prime suspects, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said.

Kawala said the key suspects disclosed during interrogation that the gang carried out attacks using paving blocks, commonly known as pavers, and identified several alleged accomplices.

She said the suspects also revealed that the gang moved together on the night Owor was attacked after reportedly targeting unsuspecting members of the public in several parts of Kampala.

According to police, the key suspects and others still at large attacked Owor on the night of August 4, 2026, and robbed him of his mobile phone.

An iPhone 14 Pro Max, suspected to have belonged to Owor, was recovered at Usafi Taxi Park near Usafi Market in Kampala.

Police also recovered several exhibits during searches at the suspects’ residences in Gangu Village, Kasubi, including two pairs of shoes. One of the pairs had bloodstains and is suspected to be linked to the attack.

Kawala said police were continuing efforts to trace and arrest the remaining suspects and other associates linked to the group.

“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Owor’s murder are still ongoing, and police will provide further updates as more information becomes available,” she said.
