Police have arrested 65 suspects during a series of intelligence-led operations targeting criminal gangs in Kampala Metropolitan and surrounding areas.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, officers attached to Katwe Police Division acted on intelligence about a group of youths allegedly linked to a string of panga robberies in Kikajjo Zone, Namasuba Parish, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality in Wakiso District.
Kawala said 13 suspects were arrested during the operation, with Nathan Waniale and Emma Mugobera allegedly found in possession of three pangas.
She said the two have been charged with possession of dangerous weapons, while the remaining 11 suspects are facing charges of public nuisance.
In a separate series of coordinated operations, police arrested 52 more suspects in Mukono Central, Namumira, Ngandu Village, Bajjo, Ntinda, Nyenje, Seeta, Goma, Kakiri and other areas identified as crime hotspots.
Police said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and improve public safety across the Kampala Metropolitan area.
Investigations into the suspects’ alleged involvement in criminal activities are ongoing.
