Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing road upgrade and construction projects across Kampala, while raising concerns over delays in the construction of the 5th Street bridge.
During an inspection tour on Friday, Nabbanja visited several infrastructure projects being implemented by China Railway Construction Corporation, including Port Bell Road, Spring Road, Katwe Road, Kibuye–Salaama Road and Sentema Road.
While commending the contractor for the progress made on the road projects, the Prime Minister questioned the prolonged delay in commencing construction of the 5th Street bridge.
She noted that the site has been under inspection for the past three years without any physical work taking place.
Nabbanja directed the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to present the agreement signed with the contractor and explain the reasons behind the failure to begin construction of the bridge.
She also expressed concern over the narrow width of some of the upgraded roads, warning that they could continue to contribute to traffic congestion and pose safety risks to pedestrians in the city.
