Pope Leo XIV has appointed Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Bosco Katusiime Gubazire as the new Bishop of Kabale Diocese.
The announcement was made this afternoon, Wednesday, 15 July 2026, by Rev. Fr. Georges Kwami Kouwono during a special Mass at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral Parish in Kabale District.
Rev. Fr. Katusiime succeeds Bishop Callist Rubaramira, whose resignation was accepted by the Holy See after he reached the canonical retirement age.
Bishop Rubaramira had submitted his resignation to Pope Francis last year in accordance with Church law, which requires bishops to present their resignation upon attaining the age of 75.
Rev. Fr. Katusiime is currently serving in the missionary apostolate in Ghana.
In the meantime, Pope Leo XIV has appointed the retired Bishop Callist Rubaramira as the Apostolic Administrator of Kabale Diocese until Bishop-elect Katusiime officially takes possession of the diocese.
