The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, who also serves as President General of the Democratic Party (DP), Norbert Mao, has revealed that preparations for the upcoming Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) summit are in advanced stages, with the official date expected to be announced soon.
Mao said all political parties represented in Parliament are expected to participate in the summit, including the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).
He attributed this to what he described as productive engagements recently held with the NUP Secretary General and the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LoP).
According to Mao, the forthcoming IPOD meeting will focus on key national issues, including alleged human rights violations, prolonged detention without trial, and the proposed legislation governing the Office of the Leader of the Opposition.
He expressed optimism that once the meeting date is confirmed, all relevant stakeholders, including NUP, will be formally notified to ensure broad participation in the dialogue, which is aimed at strengthening democracy, promoting good governance, and fostering constructive political engagement in Uganda.
