The Opposition Justice Forum (JEEMA) has urged Ugandans to use the upcoming LC1 and LC2 elections as an opportunity to end decades of National Resistance Movement (NRM) dominance, describing the polls as a pathway to “people-centred political renewal” at the grassroots level.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, JEEMA spokesperson Dr Swaib Kaggwa Nsereko called on eligible voters to actively participate in the elections, reject vote buying, and support opposition-aligned candidates.
The party said it is targeting victory in 65 percent of Uganda’s 71,227 village councils and 10,595 parish councils, arguing that local government positions play a key role in managing issues such as land, security, healthcare and community budgets.
Kaggwa accused the government of pushing the country into unsustainable debt, mismanaging public resources and undermining constitutional governance.
JEEMA pledged to field candidates across the country and provide training, campaign materials and nomination support to individuals seeking to contest on the party ticket.
Kaggwa urged citizens to “step forward, contest, vote and protect the Constitution,” saying Uganda’s future would be shaped by decisions made in villages rather than by political elites.
