Vice President Alupo Assures Parliament of Release of Detained MP Margaret Etilu Within the Week

Vice President Major (Rtd) Jessica Alupo

Vice President Major (Rtd) Jessica Alupo has assured Parliament that the detained Amuria District Woman Member of Parliament, Margaret Etilu, will be released before the end of this week and resume her legislative duties.

Etilu was reportedly arrested by security operatives on May 23, 2026, shortly after leaving the Nakasero residence of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among in Kampala.

Alupo made the statement during a heated plenary sitting chaired by Speaker Jacob Oboth-Oboth, following concerns raised by Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, who demanded a formal explanation on the legislator’s whereabouts.

Responding to the matter, the Vice President told the House that Hon. Etilu has been in detention but is expected to return to Parliament within the week.

During the same sitting, Ssenyonyi also sought clarification from government regarding the disappearance of musician King Zale, born Christopher Godi.

He was reportedly abducted on the night of April 21, 2026, near the Firebase offices in Kamwokya, Kampala.

Witnesses allege that armed men forced him into a waiting Toyota Hiace, commonly referred to as a “drone,” before driving off to an unknown destination.

The government is yet to provide further details on both cases.
