At least 10 aspirants have expressed interest in contesting for the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament seat on the National Unity Platform ticket.
According to Harriet Chamutia, the party’s vetting process is already underway. She said all successfully nominated candidates will participate in a public debate on May 16, 2026, before the party selects its official flag bearer.
Chamutia called on party members seeking the NUP flag for the Kalangala District Woman MP seat to be prepared for any outcome from the ongoing vetting exercise.
Among those who have returned nomination forms is Irene Nampala, the elder sister of the late former Woman MP Hellen Nakimuli.
Chamutia also cautioned aspirants against falling victim to conmen soliciting money in exchange for promises of influencing the nomination process.
The Kalangala Woman MP seat fell vacant following the death of Hon. Hellen Nakimuli.
Meanwhile, Irene Nampala pledged to address challenges affecting residents of Kalangala District, including the poor education system, inadequate transport network, and healthcare services.
