Deputy Inspector General of Government (DIGG) Anna Twinomugisha Muhairwe has inspected the progress of Busega-Mpigi Expressway an alternative route to avert traffic jam from Busega.
The assessment impact Meeting with engineers and Ministry of Works’ technocrats, Muhairwe acknowledged that some delays are beyond the contractor’s control but emphasized the need for accountability and timely project delivery.
The inspection covered construction quality, worker treatment, and land acquisition issues.
Muhairwe vowed to meet with relevant stakeholders, including the Attorney General and PPDA, and committed to follow-up inspections every six months.
The Muhairwe stressed that proper oversight is essential to protect public funds and ensure infrastructure supports economic development and population growth in the region.
Muhairwe was however concerned over encroachment along the Busega-Mpigi Expressway corridor revealing that some citizens had illegally built new homes on land earmarked for the project, taking advantage of delays of the project.
She warned that the Inspectorate of Government would publish the offenders in the media and trace property owners to prevent exploitation of compensation processes.
Muhairwe emphasized that the Ministry of Works must ensure proper monitoring and protection of infrastructure corridors to safeguard public investments.
Authorities also plan to engage the Government Chief Valuer to address inconsistencies in land valuation for affected properties.
