The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced that it has reached 78% progress on road works under the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project (KCRRP).

The project targets the upgrade of 121 kilometers of roads, including major routes such as Salaama Road, Portbell Road, Sir Apollo Kagwa Road, and the Kiti–Mpererwe corridor.

Speaking at a media breakfast meeting, Deputy Executive Director Benon Kigenyi said progress has significantly improved from 40% recorded in January 2025.

He noted that the ongoing works are expected to enhance mobility and reduce traffic congestion across the city.

However, he pointed to several challenges affecting implementation, including right-of-way disputes with landowners seeking compensation, utility relocation delays, and vandalism of infrastructure.

Despite these setbacks, KCCA maintains that the project will be completed by December 2026.

The works are being funded through Shs 228 billion from the African Development Bank and the African Development Fund.
