Kasese Diocese is working with an approved budget of 4.5 billion shillings for the successful organisation of this year’s June 3rd Uganda Martyrs day celebrations.
The funds are to cover liturgical, logistical, security, transport, accommodation and communication needs for pilgrims and guests.
As the animating diocese for this year’s Martyrs day celebrations a lot is required for the successful celebrations including among others the planning for the Walk of Faith from Munyonyo to Old Kampala, Students Pilgrimage on May 30th April before the final celebrations on June 3rd April 2026.
In December last year, at the launch of a fundraising drive in a Kampala Hotel, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira the Bishop of Kasese Diocese revealed that government had pledged over 2.5 Billion Shillings to support the preparation activities.
Now Fr. John Baptist Kule, chair of the diocesan organizing committee, revealed that they have so far managed to raise 400 million shillings, which has already been spent on preliminary preparations, leaving a deficit of 4.1 billion shillings.
He has appealed to the central government to expedite the release of 2 billion shillings earmarked to support preparations for the 2026 Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations, scheduled for 3rd June 2026.
He further appealed to the people of Kasese, regardless of denomination, to rally for the cause, emphasizing that animating the Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations is not only a spiritual opportunity but also a major avenue to promote and market Kasese District at national and international levels.
Fr. Kule also noted that alongside preparations for Uganda Martyrs Day, the Diocese of Kasese has also embarked on the construction of a new cathedral, a major infrastructure project projected to cost 7 billion shillings.
