UNICEF demands urgent action towards the killer of toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre in Kampala.
It should be noted that the attacker identified as Christopher Okello Onyum was arrested and is currently in court.
According to the statement signed by the UNICEF representative in Uganda Dr. Robin Randy indicated that schools must never be targets of violence and every child in Uganda has the fundamental right to learn, play, and grow in environment
that are safe and protective.
He adds that schools and early childhood centers should be sanctuaries where children thrive, not places where they face violence and fear.
UNICEF says they are ready to support the Government of Uganda, local authorities, and affected communities in providing immediate psychosocial support to traumatized Children, families, and school communities.
UNICEF now says they are committed to working with all partners including the Ministry of Education and Sports to urgently strengthen child protection systems and ensure that every child in Uganda can access education in safety.
