The Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba, has attributed the recent reduction in crime to improved command structures, stronger interagency collaboration, and enhanced policing strategies.
Speaking at the launch of the Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report 2025 in Naguru, Byakagaba revealed that crime dropped by 10.2 percent, with 196,405 cases recorded in 2025 compared to 218,715 cases in 2024.
He noted that a clearer chain of command has strengthened decision-making within the force, while joint operations involving the police, the military, and other security partners have improved overall effectiveness.
The IGP also highlighted the ongoing rollout of the sub-county policing model, which has so far covered 56 percent of the country, bringing services closer to local communities.
He further credited the adoption of technology—including CCTV surveillance, canine units, and forensic services—for enhancing intelligence-led operations.
Byakagaba emphasized that sustained community engagement will be critical in maintaining the downward trend in crime, urging continued cooperation between the public and security agencies.
