Caritas Uganda Calls for Stronger Internal Support Among Catholic Institutions

Rev. Fr. Hillary Muhenzangango, National Director of Caritas Uganda

Rev. Fr. Hillary Muhenzangango, National Director of Caritas Uganda, has used the ongoing Caritas Week celebrations to urge stronger internal support among Catholic institutions to sustain church initiatives.

Speaking at the 16th Annual National Caritas Week in Jinja, Fr. Muhezangango criticized the tendency of church-founded institutions to seek services externally rather than supporting their own networks.

He cited examples where Catholic entities establish media houses or financial services but fail to utilize them, undermining their long-term sustainability.

Drawing on a business model he compared to Indian traders, Fr. Muhezangango emphasized collaboration and mutual support, encouraging institutions to source services within a trusted network to retain value internally.

He also challenged Catholic institutions to improve hospitality and service delivery, warning that poor customer experiences drive people away.

Fr. Muhezangango called on Church leaders to adopt practical resolutions that prioritize unity, self-reliance, and consistent patronage of Catholic-founded initiatives, ensuring that the Church’s resources and services remain effective and impactful.
