Traffic Police have attributed a series of fatal accidents last week to speeding and reckless overtaking, which continue to endanger lives on Uganda’s roads.
Speaking on the incidents, Traffic Police Spokesperson Michael Kananura revealed that several crashes resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
On March 20, 2026, three people died and eight others were injured in a collision between a Toyota Hiace and a Tata lorry at Nkondo Village along the Gulu Highway in Luwero District.
On the same day, another crash in Masindi claimed three lives after a speeding vehicle lost control, hitting two motorcycles and a pedestrian before crashing into a hotel wall.
A day later, three more people died in Ntungamo District when truck carrying market vendors overturned.
Kananura emphasized that motorists must respect speed limits and avoid dangerous overtaking to prevent further loss of life, calling for stricter adherence to road safety rules.
