Dr. Chris Mukiza, Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), has announced the rollout of a new national survey aimed at addressing critical data gaps on vulnerable populations.
Speaking at the launch of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children monograph at Statistics House, Mukiza explained that the survey, known globally as the Martinique Cluster Survey (MICS), will focus on key groups including women, children, and persons with disabilities. He noted that the initiative is intended to respond to unanswered questions from the 2024 National Population Census.
Mukiza emphasized that the survey will generate comprehensive, demand-driven data to guide policy and planning across sectors. He acknowledged UNICEF for supporting the initiative and highlighted its role in advancing child welfare.
Reaffirming UBOS’ commitment to evidence-based decision-making, Mukiza encouraged stakeholders and researchers to utilize the data to promote inclusive development and improve service delivery nationwide.
