Mukono Grade One Magistrate Praise Ahurira has further remanded 21-year-old Dak Hussein Taewaiko, who is suspected of murdering Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, the former Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University. Taewaiko is to remain in custody until April 8, 2026.
During a court session today, Taewaiko appeared for further mention on charges including murder and aggravated robbery.
The Senior Resident Attorney, Josephine Nanyonga, informed the court that investigations into the case were still ongoing and requested another date for mention, which the magistrate granted, returning the suspect to Luzira Prison.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of February 11, 2026, at Tumwebaze’s home in Gwafu West Cell, Goma Division, Mukono District.
Investigators stated that an intruder broke into the house while Tumwebaze, 46, was asleep, strangling her to death.
The assailant then allegedly confronted the house help, demanded keys and valuables, and fled the scene wearing some of the victim’s clothing. Items taken reportedly included a mobile phone and a laptop bag.
Tumwebaze was rushed to Mukono Namirembe Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her death has caused widespread grief at Uganda Christian University, where she had served in student welfare and campus administration with dedication.
