Justice Stephen Musota Re-Appointed Chief Inspector of Courts for Three-Year Term

Chief Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija has re-appointed Supreme Court Justice Stephen Musota as the Chief Inspector of Courts for a three-year term, effective January 25, 2026, according to a Judiciary statement issued on Monday.

As Chief Inspector of Courts, Justice Musota oversees the operations of the Inspectorate, ensuring judicial accountability, integrity, discipline, and adherence to performance standards across all levels of courts.

This marks his second tenure, having first been appointed on January 27, 2023, reflecting confidence in his leadership of the office.

Located at the High Court premises on Plot 2, The Square in Kampala, the Inspectorate monitors and evaluates the performance of judicial officers, court staff, and facilities nationwide.

Its duties include investigating public complaints, inspecting court premises, assessing judicial staff performance, identifying operational bottlenecks, and analyzing court returns to improve efficiency.

Justice Musota brings over 40 years of judicial experience, having begun his career as a Grade One Magistrate in 1984.

He has served as Senior Principal Magistrate Grade One, Chief Magistrate, Deputy Registrar, Registrar of the High Court, and Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

He became a High Court judge in 2004, was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 2018, and joined the Supreme Court in 2022.
