The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) has called on Ugandans to uphold respect and dignity in homes and communities to help reduce domestic violence against women and girls.
Dr. Turayifosa Ssengendo Sekate, a Gender and Women Affairs specialist at IRCU, made the appeal ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8th.
She noted that societal attitudes and a lack of respect for human dignity significantly contribute to domestic violence.
Dr. Ssengendo emphasized that promoting respect is a shared responsibility, urging adults to set positive examples for children.
This year’s National Women’s Day celebrations will take place at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds under the theme: “Scaling up Investments to Accelerate Access to Justice for all Women and Girls in Uganda.” President Yoweri Museveni will attend as the chief guest.
