The Uganda Prisons Service has confirmed that security agencies are still pursuing one of its officers who allegedly shot and killed four people last week.
Prisons spokesperson Frank Baine said the suspect, identified as Moses Anguyo, Warder No. 13544, is believed to have carried out the fatal shooting at Kiboga Central Prison.
According to Baine, the officer allegedly opened fire at the facility, killing Hope Catherine, the deputy officer-in-charge, Bright Akishuri, the third in command, and Ayebare on the spot. Two of the victims were fellow prison officers.
Baine described the incident as a serious and tragic loss to the institution and the country.
He noted that security forces remain actively engaged in tracking down the suspect and bringing him to justice.
He appealed to the public and the media to assist by sharing any information that could support the ongoing manhunt.
The Prisons Service manages 270 prisons across 19 regions and oversees an inmate population of 79,703.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing.
