Museveni Pledges Sh3 Billion for Nsambya Cancer Treatment Centre Completion

Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among at the launch of the 15th edition of the Rotary Cancer Run 2026

President Yoweri Museveni has pledged 3 billion Ugandan shillings towards completing the cancer treatment centre at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya.

The announcement was made by Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among during the launch of the 15th edition of the Rotary Cancer Run 2026, an initiative aimed at raising funds to finish the hospital’s cancer treatment facility.

The run, scheduled for 30th August 2026 at Kololo Independence Grounds, will take place under the theme “GWANGA MUJJE” and aims to raise 5 billion shillings from at least 100,000 participants.

The mission of the event is to complete the cancer treatment centre, which will house linear acceleration machines and advanced radiotherapy technology to provide affordable, world-class cancer treatment with minimal side effects.

During the launch at Nsambya Hospital, Speaker Among emphasized that Rotary’s contributions are helping reduce the financial burden on families affected by cancer, highlighting the importance of community support in tackling the disease.

Meanwhile, Centenary Bank Executive Director Balikuddembe Kiwanuka Joseph announced the bank’s donation of 500 million shillings towards the project, underscoring the role of private institutions in creating awareness and supporting cancer care initiatives.
