Police Arrest 429 Suspects in Massive Crime Crackdown Across Kampala Metropolitan Area

A total of 429 suspects have been arrested in a series of coordinated operations targeting crime hotspots across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

The intelligence-led operations, conducted between February 24 and 25, 2026, focused on areas known for narcotics, housebreaking, and public nuisance, as police intensify efforts to curb crime and enhance public safety.

In Kira Division, operations in Mulawa Trading Centre and Najjera Kamwanyi resulted in 81 arrests.

The Old Kampala Division recorded the highest number of arrests, with 152 suspects detained in Kisenyi Zone, Muza Zone, and surrounding areas.

Kira Road Division followed with 49 arrests in Universal Kisaasi Sector, Kamwokya, and Kyebando, while Jinja Road Division netted 20 suspects during a late-night operation in Center Zone, Kaggo Buyinja, and Kinawataka.

In Nansana, 48 suspects were apprehended during an early morning operation, while Wakiso Town operations led to 23 arrests.

Another 50 suspects were detained in the Bulenga area, including Musoke Road, Kawuzi Street, Gogonya, and Kikaaya Katogo. Kajjansi Police Division recorded six arrests in Kilyamuli, Kilumba, and Namulanda Ward.

During the operations, police recovered several exhibits, including opium rolls, breaking implements, and suspected housebreaking tools.

All 429 suspects remain in police custody. Cases of possession of opium and public nuisance have been opened, and the individuals will undergo screening before being presented in court.

SP Racheal Kawala stated that the operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore public order across the metropolitan area.
