Police Deny Investigating NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Over Treason Allegations

Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke

The Uganda Police Force has dismissed reports claiming that Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), is under investigation for treason.

Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke clarified during a weekly security briefing at Police Headquarters in Naguru that no specific charges have been filed against Kyagulanyi.

The police have also not launched any investigations targeting his close associates, rejecting speculation that members of his inner circle are under scrutiny.

Security deployment remains in place at Kyagulanyi’s residence in Magere, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District, a measure maintained since 15th January 2015.

Authorities have described the deployment as a preventive strategy to uphold public order and deter potential violence.

Police emphasized that their actions are solely focused on maintaining security and are not linked to any active criminal proceedings against the opposition leader.
