A nationwide security crackdown has resulted in the arrest of 1,095 suspects within four days, police have confirmed.
Addressing the weekly press briefing at Naguru, Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the joint operations were conducted by the Uganda Police Force in collaboration with other security agencies. The operations were launched in response to a surge in criminal activity, particularly in the Kampala Metropolitan area.
According to Rusoke, the suspects are linked to various offenses, including burglary, possession of narcotic drugs, and street mugging.
The intensified operations targeted known crime hotspots as well as individuals suspected to be habitual offenders.
Security teams also recovered several exhibits during the swoops, including weapons and suspected stolen property.
Police said investigations into the cases are ongoing and indicated that similar enforcement operations will continue in a bid to restore law and order, especially in urban centers experiencing rising crime rates.
