Lugazi Diocese celebrates a colourful 29th Diocesan anniversary

Christians and well-wishers from Lugazi diocese and the surrounding areas converged at Queen of Peace Cathedral Lugazi to celebrate the 29th anniversary since the diocese was erected on 23 February 1997.

The Celebration was led by the ordinary Rt. Rev. Bishop Christopher Kakooza who congratulated the Christians, priests and all people of God for their unwavering support they extended to the Diocese during the 3rd June Uganda Martyrs day 2025 Celebrations at Namugongo as the animating diocese.

With an endless smile Bishop Kakooza prayed that the blessings got from Namugongo have supported their works and endeavors.

Bishop Kakooza announced last year that during the 2026 diocesan day all Christians will be coming together for a thanks giving for the successful organistion of the year 2025 Uganda Martyrs Day as the animating diocese.

Bishop Kakooza enumerated a number of achievements in the 35 dioceses that currently make up the Diocese and announced that Kibubu, Walusubi, Lukaya and Kitigoma are parishes in the offing once completed the diocese will be counting 39 parishes.

Kiwanga Parish the first parish to the diocese located along Jinja road from Kampala Archdiocese just after Namanve industrial area are going to construct a new parish Church to suit the positioning of the parish.

He reminded the congregation of self reflection and fulfillment of the three Christian virtues called for during the lent season.

Lugazi Diocese was erected in 1997 from Kampala Archdiocese by Pope John Paul II and appointed Bishop Mathias Ssekamanya as the first ordinary who retired in 2014 and Pope Francis appointed Bishop Kakooza who is still the serving Bishop since 2014.

The mass was attended by among others Bishop Mathias Ssekamanay, the Vicar General of Lugazi Msgr. Richard Kayondo, priests and religious, and from the political side, the state minister for higher education John Chrysostom Muyingo led the team.
