The Electoral Commission of Uganda has scheduled March 12, 2026, to conduct residual elections in areas where the February 4 Local Government Council III (LCIII) polls were not completed due to administrative and technical disruptions.
In a letter dated February 20, 2026, Acting Secretary Richard Baabo Kamugisha informed Returning Officers and District Election Administrators that several sub-counties, town councils, and municipal divisions were unable to complete elections for LCIII chairpersons and councillors.
The affected areas faced challenges including mismatched candidate photographs, symbol mix-ups, Biometric Voter Verification Kit (BVVK) failures, tied results, and incomplete electoral demarcations.
The Commission has instructed officials to coordinate with the Election Management Department to ensure that all affected areas are included in the residual polls.
Electoral Commission spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi confirmed that the March 12 elections will cover all areas where LCIII, Town Council, and Municipal Division chairperson and councillor elections were previously not conducted.
