Mixed Reactions as MP Yusuf Nsibambi Crosses from FDC to NRM

Members of Parliament (MPs) have expressed mixed reactions to the unexpected decision by Mawokota North MP, Yusuf Nsibambi, to switch allegiance from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Nsibambi, who had been serving as the FDC Party Whip in the 11th Parliament, recently lost his seat to NRM’s Suzan Nakawuki in the recent general elections.

Just days before his defection, he had led a delegation of opposition leaders to meet President Museveni at State House.

This morning, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who also serves as the NRM’s Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), officially introduced Nsibambi as a new member of the ruling party during an event at the NRM headquarters on Kyadondo Road.

Opposition MPs, including John Baptist Nambeshe (Manjiya County) and Mpindi Bumali (MP for Persons with Disabilities), expressed that Nsibambi’s move was not unexpected.

They argued that it would not weaken the opposition but rather serve his personal interests.

On the other hand, NRM MPs like Michael Timuzigu (Kinkizi West) and Naome Kabasharira (Rushenyi County) praised Nsibambi for his legal expertise and strong stance, welcoming him as a valuable addition to their party.
