The Katikiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on the people of Buganda and the entire country to unite in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Speaking at the official launch of the 13th edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run, scheduled for April 12, 2026, Mayiga stressed the urgent need to raise awareness and spread accurate information about HIV/AIDS.
He emphasized that such efforts are crucial to achieving Uganda’s goal of ending the epidemic by 2030.
Mayiga urged community leaders, cultural institutions, and individuals to play an active role in educating the public on HIV prevention, treatment, and support.
He encouraged everyone, regardless of status or background, to join the mission of combating the disease, underscoring that the time for action is now, though much work remains to be done.
The Katikiro also expressed his gratitude to Airtel Uganda, the official sponsors of the Kabaka Birthday Run, for their continued support of Buganda Kingdom initiatives.
In support of the event, Soumendra Sahu, the Executive Director of Airtel Uganda, encouraged all Ugandans to participate in the race, urging them to run for the sake of their loved ones affected by HIV/AIDS.
