Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere Calls for Repentance Amid Rising Killings in Uganda

The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, has voiced deep concern over the alarming rise in killings across Uganda in recent days.

During his Ash Wednesday Mass at Lubaga Cathedral, Archbishop Ssemogerere referenced several recent incidents, including the tragic killing of the Dean of Students at Uganda Christian University and the murder of a senior six student by a parent in Matugga, Nansana Municipality, over suspicions of an illicit relationship with his daughter.

He condemned these acts as manifestations of evil spirits and called on the faithful to fight against such darkness during this Lenten season.

The Archbishop urged Christians to embrace repentance and spiritual renewal, emphasizing that God is ready to forgive and welcome all who turn back to Him.

He also reminded the congregation of the three pillars of Lent—prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, which are central to the 40-day period of reflection leading up to Easter.

Archbishop Ssemogerere encouraged the faithful to use this time to prepare their hearts for the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the source of new life and hope for all believers.
