Marriage is an indissoluble union in the Catholic Church

Director Holy Cross Family Ministries Uganda Rev. Fr.John Baptist Nsubuga in Red

The Catholic Church has called upon Ugandans to respect the institution of marriage as it’s the foundation of the church and society.

Under the Catholic Church the institution of marriage was qualified and blessed by God through the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony that brings a man and woman together in a union that is indissoluble.

This was said by the Director Communications Holy Cross Family Ministries Uganda Rev. Fr. Denis Lule told married couples who converged at Bishop Hanlon Gardens Nsambya to celebrate the Valentine’s day that the marriage institution has been taken for granted where some apparently regard it as nothing due to secularism and abuse of cultural values and norms.

The world today is promoting behaviours that violate the family and societal norms; homosexuality, single life under the avoidance of control, commercial sex among others. These come with a lot of negative effects that Christians must be aware of.

Fr. Lule said marriage calls for humbleness, truth, hard work, respect and complement one another. This supports nurturing of meaningful families with responsible children.

Married couples need to be exemplary to attract the young generation into this calling to preserve the church.

He reminded the married couples of the courage of an Italian Saint Valentine the patron saint of married couples who witnessed Christ in his priestly life by guiding, supporting and witnessing marriage ceremonies for youth who were going for army mission during the time of emperor Claudio who used to deny them freedom of marriage with a false conviction that single men would serve better in the army, which saint Valentine changes and married them off before going for army missions which led to his martyrdom on 14th February 273.

The married couples drawn from St. Peter’s Parish Nsambya, St. Denis Konge Lukuli Parish and Muyenga Proposed Parish in Makindye Division renewed their marriage vows, served to a special luncheon, exchanged gifts and later entertained with a live band.

The Family of Mr. and Mrs Nsubuga of St. Peter’s Parish Nsambya who clocked 50 year in Marriage represented other couples to rededicate marriage to the Holy family during the event.
