Heavy Security Deployed at Hoima Court Ahead of National Female Youth MP Election Petition Hearing

Deployed at Hoima Court

A heavy security deployment has been put in place at Hoima Magistrates’ Court ahead of the hearing of an election petition seeking a vote recount for the recently concluded National Female Youth Representative to Parliament race.

Personnel from the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) were stationed in and around the court ahead of the proceedings.

Dianah Kampe Ampaire of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party filed the petition on February 11, 2026, requesting a recount of votes, citing alleged irregularities in the tallying and counting process. The court scheduled the hearing for February 13, 2026.

The elections for the National Female Youth Parliamentary seat were held on February 6, 2026, at Hoima City polling station.

The Electoral Commission declared Mercy Kanyesigye, an independent candidate, the winner with 216 votes, surpassing her closest rival, Diana Kampe Ampaire (NRM), who garnered 198 votes.

Julia Muhumuza (Independent) came third with 24 votes, while Edith Namande Nakayiza of the National Unity Platform (NUP) trailed with one vote, according to the official results announced by Jennifer Kyobutungi, Kampala District Returning Officer.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, stated that the deployment aims to reinforce security and prevent any disturbances during and after the court ruling.
