The selection of learners joining Senior One concludes today at UMA Show Grounds in Lugogo, Kampala, with some rural schools sticking to strict cut-off points.
The two-day exercise is a critical transition for thousands of candidates who sat for the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE).
Last year, traditional schools in Kampala and surrounding metropolitan areas set a competitive cut-off point of Aggregate 8.
This year, while some schools have slightly lowered their cut-off points, others have maintained last year’s benchmark to accommodate more learners.
Edward Okwi, deputy headteacher of Moroto Parents Secondary School in the Karamoja sub-region, confirmed that their cut-off point will remain at 28.
Over 91,000 candidates passed in Division One, representing 11.39% of the more than 800,000 candidates who sat for the exams.
Nearly 380,000 candidates passed in Division Two, 165,000 in Division Three, over 75,000 in Division Four, and more than 77,000 candidates were ungraded.
According to the Ministry of Education and Sports, Senior One students are expected to start school on March 3, 2026.
