The Uganda Electoral Commission has scheduled today, 9th February, and tomorrow, 10th February 2026, as nomination days for constituencies where candidates have passed away.
Julius Mucunguzi, the commission’s public relations officer, explained in an interview in Kampala that the decision follows Section 44 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, which requires the commission to set new nomination dates if a candidate dies before polling day.
He added that under the same provision, candidates who were previously nominated will not need to participate in the fresh nominations.
Mucunguzi also noted that the commission has received reports of about twenty candidate deaths.
