Sserunjogi Retains Kawempe Mayoral Seat as NUP Secures Key Wins in Wakiso

Sserunjogi Retains Kawempe Mayoral

Incumbent Kawempe Division Mayor and National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, Emmanuel Sserunjogi, has retained his seat after an overwhelming victory, polling 23,715 votes in the mayoral race.

Sserunjogi defeated his closest challenger, Farouk Swimpo Bulime of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who garnered 18,483 votes.

Former Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Latif Ssebaggala Sengendo, running as an independent, came third with 5,866 votes.

Other candidates included independent contender Eric Njakasi Katende, who polled 1,898 votes, while Emmanuel Musoke of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) trailed with 347 votes.

The declaration of results followed a tense standoff after both Sserunjogi and Bulime claimed victory, delaying the process.

Kampala Returning Officer Jennifer Kyobutungi ordered the opening of sealed ballot boxes to verify the results before officially announcing the winner.

Meanwhile, the opposition National Unity Platform registered another mayoral victory in Wakiso District after winning Nansana Municipality.

NUP candidate John Bosco Sserunkuuma, popularly known as Kaana Kabaata, polled 19,468 votes to defeat NRM’s Hamidu Nsubuga Kizito, who garnered 9,690 votes.

However, the ruling NRM maintained control of Makindye Ssabagabo, Entebbe, and Kira municipalities.
