The Principal State Attorney, Betty Karungi Gafabusa, has asked the High Court in Masaka to adjourn the money-laundering case against Reverend Father Deusdedit Ssekabira to February 4.
Karungi told court that the adjournment is necessary to allow key parties, including the Minister of Defence and the Inspector General of Police, to file their affidavits in the matter.
However, the defence team, led by Masaka Diocese lawyer Counsel Alexander Lure, objected to the request.
The lawyers argued that the concerned parties were served on January 13, and that the hearing already postponed to today, January 27, should proceed as scheduled.
The presiding judge, Justice Victoria Nakintu Katamba, is expected to deliver a ruling on whether to grant the adjournment.
Reverend Father Dr. Deusdedit Ssekabira, a Catholic priest from Masaka Diocese, was arrested by security operatives on December 3, 2025.
He was reportedly picked up by armed men in unmarked vehicles from his office in Katwe, Masaka City, and initially held incommunicado.
He was later charged before the Masaka Chief Magistrate’s Court with money laundering, in connection with the alleged concealment of five hundred million shillings between 2023 and 2025.
