Bugahya County MP Pius Wakabi

The police in Hoima are investigating the disappearance of Pius Wakabi, the Bugahya County Member of Parliament, who was last seen on Wednesday afternoon in Hoima City in good health.

According to Paul Rujumba, Wakabi’s brother, they met around midday on Wednesday, and Wakabi later informed him that he was traveling to Buseruka Sub-County to meet his constituents.

Around 7:00 p.m., while traveling in his Toyota Wish vehicle, Wakabi called to report that he was being trailed by unknown individuals in another car.

Attempts to reach him afterward were unsuccessful, as all his phones were switched off.

The family subsequently reported the matter to Hoima Central Police Station, and Wakabi’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that the case had been reported and that investigations were underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Wakabi’s disappearance.

He said police were tracking all the people Wakabi had communicated with before his phones went off and assured that the investigation was progressing well.

Wakabi, the incumbent MP for Bugahya County, was recently re-elected, polling 30,923 votes.

He defeated Herbert Kato of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), who came second with 3,373 votes, and Allan Tugume of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who trailed with 3,091 votes.
