Ntungamo RDC Confirms Boosted Security at Rwanda Border Ahead of Elections

Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Miriam Kagaiga

The Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Miriam Kagaiga, has confirmed that the district security committee has agreed to intensify security deployment along borders with Rwanda ahead of the January 15 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Ntungamo has two border posts, Mirama Hills in Ruhama Sub County and Ngoma border post in Ngoma Sub County that connect with Rwanda.

Kagaiga said the heightened security aims to prevent external disruptions and stop non-nationals from attempting to cast votes in Uganda.

Speaking to the press after witnessing the arrival of voting materials at Ntungamo district headquarters on Monday, Kagaiga noted that the army and police have been deployed to strengthen security.

She emphasized the need for vigilance, saying the election period increases vulnerability to terrorism and other international threats if precautionary measures are ignored.

Kagaiga also appealed to citizens to carry identification documents at all times and to comply with any police instructions or summons, stressing that such measures are precautionary.
