Bishop Banja Urges Ugandans to Vote Peacefully, Reject Election Boycotts Ahead of 2026 Polls

Bishop of Namirembe, Rt. Rev. Moses Banja

The Bishop of Namirembe, Rt. Rev. Moses Banja, has called on Ugandans to actively participate in the 2026 general elections, urging citizens to reject election boycotts and instead turn up in large numbers to vote peacefully.

Bishop Banja made the appeal while presiding over the Christmas service at Namirembe Cathedral, where he emphasized peace, unity, and national responsibility as the country prepares for the general elections scheduled for January 15, 2026.

He warned that without peace, Uganda cannot remain stable, and urged citizens to avoid actions that divide communities.

On the electoral process, the Bishop stressed the importance of respecting human rights and called on political leaders to accept election outcomes arrived at through peaceful and lawful means.

He further appealed to security agencies to act professionally during the election period and to protect press freedom, noting the critical role of the media in promoting democracy and informed public participation.

In addition, Bishop Banja encouraged Christians to embrace acts of charity toward the needy during the Christmas season, reminding believers that love and generosity are central to the celebration of Christ’s birth.
