As Uganda approaches the January 2026 General Elections, Catholic Bishops have urged citizens to participate actively, vote responsibly, and reject bribery.
In a Christmas message delivered at Nsambya, Bishop Joseph Antony Zziwa emphasized the Christian values of peace, love, and reconciliation as guiding principles for the elections.
The bishops expressed concern over rising political tensions, violence, and attempts to restrict candidates, warning that these threaten national unity and public trust.
They called on voters to choose leaders with integrity, justice, and commitment to the common good, stressing that voting is both a civic and moral responsibility.
Drawing on biblical teachings, the statement encouraged faith, compassion, and fairness in all interactions.
Citizens were also urged to address societal challenges such as corruption, inequality, and moral decline, using the festive season to strengthen relationships and promote peace.
Bishop Zziwa concluded with Christmas and New Year greetings, reminding Ugandans to let Christ’s message of hope and love guide them as they vote in 2026.
