Masaka Diocese Bishop Assures Public of Efforts to Secure Fr. Ssekabira’s Release Amid Ongoing Legal Battle

The Ordinary of Masaka Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba, has assured the public that the diocese is doing everything in its power to secure the release of Rev. Fr. Deusdedit Ssekabira, who remains in detention.

Speaking at his residence at Kitovu Cathedral in Masaka during his Christmas and New Year message, Bishop Jjumba expressed shock over the arrest of Fr. Ssekabira, describing it as an unexpected turn of events for the diocese.

He stated that the diocese is actively working with relevant authorities and security agencies to ensure the priest’s release.

Bishop Jjumba also took the opportunity to thank the Christians and the wider community for their unwavering support during this difficult time.

He acknowledged the courage and solidarity shown to both the church and Fr. Ssekabira’s family, promising that the diocese would continue to work together with all parties involved in addressing the situation.

Regarding the upcoming general elections, Bishop Jjumba referred the faithful to the pastoral letter released by the Bishops of Uganda in March 2025.

He encouraged the people of God to follow the guidance provided on how to approach the elections before, during, and after the process, emphasizing the importance of peace, integrity, and responsibility.
