Lubowa International Specialized Hospital 65% Complete, Set to Open Next Year, Confirms Minister Aceng

Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng

The government has confirmed that the construction of Lubowa International Specialized Hospital, which is still under development, is now 65% complete.

This was announced by Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng during a press briefing at the NRM Secretariat, where she outlined significant progress in the country’s healthcare sector.

Dr. Aceng highlighted that the government has made substantial strides in health infrastructure, noting the completion of six specialized referral hospitals and four regional referral hospitals, bringing the total number of specialized hospitals in Uganda to ten.

The minister assured the public that Lubowa Hospital is on track to be commissioned next year.

Once operational, the facility will provide cutting-edge medical care, including organ transplants, as well as heart, lung, and kidney surgeries.

The hospital is expected to be a key player in offering specialized treatments that were previously unavailable locally.

In addition to the infrastructure developments, Minister Aceng confirmed that health workers have already been trained to operate the new facilities.

However, she noted that certain highly specialized medical personnel are still undergoing further training to meet the hospital’s advanced medical needs.

Other super-specialized hospitals that have been developed include Mulago Specialized Referral Hospital, the Uganda Cancer Institute, the Uganda Heart Institute, Mulago Specialized and Women’s Neonatal Hospital, and the Entebbe Surgical Children’s Hospital.

Furthermore, the minister mentioned the completion of regional referral hospitals, including Kiruddu Referral Hospital, Kawempe Referral Hospital, China Friendship Hospital Nagguru, and Butabika Hospital, further improving the nation’s healthcare capacity.

With these developments, the government continues to strengthen Uganda’s healthcare system and ensure that specialized treatments are more accessible to Ugandans.
