Religious leaders have been urged to highlight gaps and shortfalls within government agencies and ministries that compromise service delivery.
The call comes from the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU), which says constructive efforts to inform government on improving extension services, increasing agricultural financing, and strengthening climate adaptation programs must be prioritized.
Such measures, the organization notes, are crucial for social transformation and agricultural development, sectors that support the livelihoods of a large portion of Uganda’s population.
The appeal was made during an IRCU workshop focused on the impact of climate change on agriculture.
Msgr. Charles Kasibante, IRCU Board Chair, stressed the importance of climate protection measures and encouraged faith-based institutions to invest in agriculture initiatives such as demonstration sites, farmer field schools, and youth agro-business programs aimed at reducing climate change risks.
He challenged religious leaders to champion food security, describing it as both a spiritual and moral imperative.
