President Museveni Appoints New Members to Uganda’s General Court Martial

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed new members to Uganda’s General Court Martial, with Brigadier General Richard Tukachungurwa replacing Brigadier General Robert Freeman Mugabe as the chairman.

Tukachungurwa takes over after Mugabe, who was appointed in July 2022, completes his third term in June 2024.

The new members of the General Court Martial include Col. Simon Wandyaka, Col. Asha Patra, Col. Raphael Mugisha, Col. Fredrick Kangwamu, Lt. Col. Mohammedie Igambi, Maj. Samuel Amodoi, Maj. Emmanuel Arihairi, Maj. Abubaker Nyombi, and Maj. Denis Chemtai.

Additionally, President Museveni appointed two new chairpersons for the division courts martial: Lt. Col. David Drani Epalu will chair the Forth Division Court Martial, while Lt. Col. Yaqoub Mulyanti will lead the Special Forces Group Court Martial.

These appointments are part of the ongoing restructuring efforts to strengthen the military justice system in Uganda.
