The Director of Public Prosecution DPP has closed its case in the high profile trial of five people charged in connection with the murder of Kampala Business man Henry Katanga after presenting 25 witnesses over a period of nearly one and half years.
Katanga was found dead on 2nd November 2023 at his home in Mbuya and his wife Molly Katanga is charged alongside their daughters Martha Nkwanzi and Patricia Kakwanza who face lesser counts of destroying evidence and being accessories after the fact.
Others on the charge sheet are Charles Otai a medic who was among the first to arrive at the scene and George Amanyire the shamba boy at the residence.
The Assistant DPP Samali Wakooli has today confirmed to the Kampala high court judge Rosette Comfort Kania that state had concluded presenting evidence believed to be substantial putting all the accused on their defence.
Justice Kania directed the defence to make their submissions by December 22nd with the prosecution expected to respond by January 28,2026 and a rejoinder if any by 5th February 2026.
The judge will then deliver her ruling on whether there is a case to answer on February 19 2026 or not.
However before closing the case, the prosecution presented it’s final witness, police bloodstain examiner Celement Otiti who testified that blood patterns in the master bedroom indicated violent movements during the incident. The blood found on the bed likely belonged to a donor who was injured and remained stationary.
Meanwhile the defence maintains that Katanga was involved in a violent domestic fight with his wife Molly Katanga.
