The Uganda Police Force has urged all presidential, parliamentary, local government, and Special Interest Group (SIG) candidates to strictly adhere to campaign guidelines as elections approach.
At a weekly press briefing in Naguru, Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke emphasized the importance of working with key stakeholders, including the police and Electoral Commission, to ensure organized and peaceful campaigns.
He noted that any campaign program should involve collaboration with these stakeholders to achieve coordinated and harmonious efforts.
ACP Rusoke warned candidates against holding processions and advised that supporters should be mobilized only at designated campaign venues.
He also prohibited the use of ambulances as lead vehicles, describing it as a dangerous misuse of emergency services.
The police condemned acts of violence, including defaced campaign posters, and indicated that offenders would face prosecution.
They also reported incidents of cybercrimes and thefts by criminals disguising themselves in party paraphernalia, adding that police teams were tasked with dealing decisively with such groups.
Traffic violations, particularly overloading of vehicles, remain a concern, and the police urged close coordination with traffic officers, emergency medical teams, and fire services to ensure safety. Violators would be held personally responsible, whether arrested on the spot or later.
