EAC member citizens should explore legal processes to secure the region

EALA-Speaker-Joseph-Ntakirutimana

Members of Parliament from the East African Legislative Assembly have called on member citizens to stop worrying about emerging actions of tension between member partner states, noting that there’s a forum in which leaders resolve their grievances.

Earlier this month there were conflicts between citizens in Kenya and Uganda over President Yoweri Museveni’s remarks about the Indian Ocean economic accessibility and security strategies by Uganda.

The Speaker of the East African Assembly, Joseph Nta-ki-rutimana from Burundi, while addressing the media ahead of the EALA sittings in Uganda scheduled to take place from today 24th/Nov/2025 until the 5th December 2025 of next month, noted that the Assembly’s mandate is oversight.

Ntakirutimana explained that the treaty is structured in a way that requires the Assembly to report to the East African Community ministers, who in turn report to the Summit of Heads of State to resolve regional issues.

Ntakirutimana however says that there will always be issues and what is important is for the countries to dialogue.

This was in response to questions raised by the media over the recent conflicts including kidnaps of the Eac citizens while in other countries, the electoral violence in Tanzania among others

Meanwhile, East African MP from Uganda, George Odongo, has encouraged citizens in the region to petition their legislators on any specific grievances so that they can be addressed comprehensively.
